In episode 2 of Lily’s Eye, Seb puts the finishing touches on the new route he bolted with his mom in Turkey. The line is epic at around 80 meters long and checks in at 8c+ (5.14c)—making it an instant classic tufa testpiece. But, says Seb, “more than a grade behind a route, there is a story with my mom in order to bolt and send a mega line. The journey itself is more interesting than the final result for me.”
The adventure continues!
After bolting this mega line Lily's Eye with my mother, it was time to send it.
This route is an amazing piece of tufa climbing located in the peninsula of Datça. In other words, it's a perfect plan for holidays!
This line is huge, around 80 meters. There is kind of three routes in one.
There is a first 7c of 20 meters. Then a traverse with huge tufas, around 8a+/b. And to finish, there is the hardest part with little pinches to reach the top of the route.
It's hard to give a grade for this route, it's so long, and I was so tired from bolting when I sent it.
It can be around 8c+ / 5.14c.
During this trip, we didn't take a proper rest day. The rest days of climbing were the bolting days, and the rest days of bolting were the climbing days! We finished the trip totally destroyed, but super happy.
More than a grade behind a route, there is a story with my mom in order to bolt and send a mega line.
The journey itself is more interesting than the final result for me. Searching for the line, bolting together with mom, sharing the passion, and then sending the route, this is the experience I want to share. Because I believe it will stay in my mind for a long time.
When you start bolting a route, you never know what will be the final result. Sometimes you have good surprises, sometimes bad ones. This time, we were lucky enough to find, bolt, and climb a mega line. Even if I was thinking to find a route a bit harder, this trip was perfect.
I think this route will become a long and beautiful classic of Datça at this grade.
